Bill, I thought the framing, richness, and tonality would bring this easily into the top five. I think it has a look of handling by a very experienced photographer. Would love to see what this technique could be used for with other subjects including figure and portrait. Any chance you can cover the technique in some detail in outtakes? I'd love to give this a try.

Old Finn: Perhaps the best way to understand it is to see a few examples: A silent scream (how can a scream be silent), original copy (how can it be an original and a copy too), only choice (a choice indicates that there are at least two options - so how can you be restricted to one).

A popular use for oxymorons is to make a comment - these may not be true opposites but the writer is trying to make a statement: Military intelligence (the suggestion is that the military are not capable of intelligence), Microsoft works ( suggesting that it does not work), Organic pesticide (how can it both), Government organization (suggesting that governments cannot be organized) and my current favourite - Corporate Responsibility.

I hope this helps, Mepo

Old Finn, In the present case the oxymoron is "smart" and "meter". Some of us do not believe that these meters are so smart. They have given many erroneous readings and also burst into flames (see comment below)

Just saw a news story on TV about these new meters bursting into flame and catching houses on fire. Fortunately, you caught these in a more benign state. I like the angle of the shot. Makes the mundane a bit more interesting to look at. I would have framed this so that the meter on the right was centered top to bottom, but that's just me.

Well composed, but what is Oxymoron. Searching the internet I got this explanation: "A figure of speech in which two words with opposing meanings are used together intentionally for effect".

    Oxymoronic indeed!

LOVE the title - my feelings exactly. The only thing they are smart at is squeezing more money out of the customer! I like the pp - rescues what could have been a boring shot.

I like the crop, and the way your eye is dragged across the page. The effects work really well to highlight the meters.

Interesting and effective use of posterization.
