Solid third. I agree that the curve in the plant and the beak play off beautifully. I also agree you might have placed higher with a 1200mm lens, lol!

Wow 3rd place! Good Job! I like the way the beak curves the same way the leaf under the bird does.

Wow, thank you everyone! Definitely an honor to place so high! I could not crop any more without severely degrading the IQ, he was waaaay up there and I was fully zoomed. This was a tall agave-like tree with blue-green leaves, thus the "cool" appearance.

Definitely an interesting angle angle for a most unusual plant

I think I would have cropped closer to the bird. Beautiful capture by the way, so hard to catch one of those in such a great pose - and a highlight in the eye to boot. Well done.

This is Low angle. Well composed. Maybe a bit underexposed.

Lovely red plumage and dramatic pose, don't know how cropped this is from the original but it might work better cropped even closer around the hummer. The area directly around where he/she is perched has some interesting shapes (especially the perch itself) but the bottom 1/3 of the frame isn't very nice.

the high angle allowed the bush to dominate the picture rather than the bird

I like the shot, but the color seems a bit on the cool side to me. The green seems to have a lot of blue in it.

The cleanness of the shot is its strength, the smallness of the subject its weakness. Zoom in tight on the hummer and it would be wonderful, except, hmmm, you'd need about 1200mm of glass and a tripod with a 50 lb. weight??
