Fog       ©2012 Mepo
Panasonic DMC-FZ30       2nd place, 206 points
1/1000s, f5.6, ISO 80, ?, Aperture Priority, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Crop. Adjust Conbright. Clone out distractions in the water. Reduce noise. USM.       Extra Info: I had been on site early because a fog was forecast. After taking several photos of the bridge and some Geese in the dense fog I packed up my tripod and was walking back to my car when suddenly the sun broke through and the buildings appeared in the background. I rushed back and took this shot. I tried it in B&W but it lost a lot of impact.

Oh man what a scene, like something out of an old 50's classic movie

I love this image! The conversion is great, but that wonderful light is what caught my eye.

Very nice! Your timing served you well. I really like the sense of depth seen here.

I never get tired of looking at the two photos - they'll make a beautiful set when they are printed

And there's the lesson: Always walk to your car backwards!!

This is a great composition. I like the different shades of dark against that perfect, foggy sky!

I like it. The sepia-like color is very nice and the silhouettes are sharp.

A big thank you for all the comments - much appreciated. It's so helpful to get other opinions - your comments make this site special and I hope I keep learning. I was so lucky with the light that morning, within minutes the fog burned off and the scene returned to a normal, dull view. I was happy to be there at the right moment and to be able to share the results on Pana.

The building in the background are the Canadian House of Parliament. If you look closely you can see the red in the Canadian flag (not pp'd!). The bridge is the Royal Alexandria Bridge, when opened in 1900 it's centre span was the 4th longest cantilever span in the world. The bridge links the provinces of Ontario and Quebec across the Ottawa river. For a view from the Ontario side see my Main entry in challenge #112.

This is a powerful capture. Personally, I think I would have cropped out a little bit of the sky. Still, I have it very high in my favorites. Good Luck!

A moody shot that conjures up all sorts of images - shadowy figures exchanging top secret papers - Hitchcock would have loved it.

nice going on this and worth the extra effort. high in my favorites if not top position.
i was going for a bridge in fog also but fog was so dense nothing was visible on the other side. glad i missed deadline and didn't enter after seeing what a fine job you did with this.
happy holidays.

Very moody image, love the line of light on the water. Maybe could have used some adjustment on the bottom corners to expose the fore- and mid-ground and balance the very nice skyline.

It's almost like looking at two periods on time. I see it like a modern bridge, and then through the mists of time, a glimpse of a medieval fortress. Nicely done!
