Golden sunset       ©2012 Raghu
Canon PowerShot SD550       7th place, 116 points
1/125s, f7.1, ?, 131mm, ?, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Color correction to match what I saw through the sun control film.       Extra Info: As I was waiting for the lift to go home after a hard day's work, I was awestruck by this emerging scene. It was changing rapidly with the fast dropping sun that I had to rush back into the office to pick up some camera that was available and capture this.

Thanks to all for the nice comments and appreciation of nature's art. I am glad, coincidentally, I ended up 7th place in both categories!

Simple sunset - but a very nice one. One of the best I've ever seen. There were a lot of good photos in the challenge, and this was one of my top favorites. I think it must be the contrast of the blues and yellows, with the vivid red sun as the center of the composition that make it seem so 'classic'. The rays are nice too. Good work! And good luck in the voting!

can see why you were awestruck , you've captured the sun-rays perfectly & it is a littl ebit above a standard sunset, & gets into my tt

Thanks for viewing and for the comments. El, I remember seeing the anticrepuscular (did I spell it right?) rays, though not this dramatic, a few years back when I was at the Marina beach in Chennai. Facing east, I spotted a curved band of light (just one band on the south-east) which when traced back looked originating from beyond the clouds obstructing the setting sun. Thanks for adding to my vocabulary too.

this is what i'm hoping for anytime i see clouds around sunset. it rarely becomes this dramatic. good capture!!
i added a new word to my vocabulary this year.
crepuscular
(seems to be harder for me to pronounce than to spell)
it refers to the rays that radiate out like in this photo. there are also anticrepuscular rays often visible in the east as the sun sets as they re gather at a point opposite the setting sun.
good luck with your entry.

Oh no, a sunset shot, with rays no less! My initial reaction mellowed after I studied this and sense you have one of the few of the quadrillion sunset shots, which actually has purpose and makes a statement. The framing, lighting, scale, background details, and light gradient all have to work together to do that and you've done well here. I expect this will make my top ten (don't tell anyone!)

Well I think it was worth the extra effort. I would clone out the bird or plane from the sky and crop away some of the base. Excellent capture!
