Girl In The Mirror       ©2013 Edward
NIKON D5100       6th place, 90 points
1/10s, f4.5, ISO 100, 75mm, Manual, Center Weighted Average, no flash

Post-Processing: Cut and pasted the girl into a second layer; reduced saturation and opacity. Increased saturation, applied some tone contrast to mirror image, modified background color and added shadow gradient.       Extra Info: GIRL IN THE MIRROR
Britney Spears

There’s a girl in the mirror
I wonder who she is
Sometimes I think I know her
Sometimes I really wish I did
There’s a story in her eyes
Lullabies and goodbyes
When she’s looking back at me
I can tell her heart is broken easily
’cause the girl in my mirror
Is crying out tonight . . .

Congratulations! A deserved place - and a beautiful model!

I thought this would be in the top 5 for its quality alone. Congrats all the same.

Beautiful visual for the words of the song. Nice use of layering to achieve the surreal effect.

These ghostly images are hard to get just right and you have done a great job here.

Forkcandles: I'm not really a Britney Spears fan. I've never even listened to her sing (except to track down this one song of hers). It just so happened that I was working on this mirror image and tried to find a song that went with it. I found this using mepo's suggested link (thank you, Michael). I presume it must be one of her earliest. If anyone cares to hear what Britney sounds like singing it, here's the YouTube link:

this must be the youngest song unless this is a cover by Britney
like the image you have obtained

Where did you add the shadow gradient? Really this is studio quality and looks pro. Congratulations! (At the risk of adding a distracting element, I might have gone with a muted wallpaper background behind the mirror or something to give the mirror a sense of scale.)

I'd love to see the separated elements in Outtakes in the forum after voting is done.

Very well put together. Like the way the girl is not the strong part of the image, yet still draws the eye

Cookiejar: funny you should have a reaction to the brown background. The original color was light green (the actual color of my bedroom where the photo was taken), but my son (who has an art background) suggested the change, so I went with it. Depth of field physics meant I either bring the frame in focus - or the background furniture. Having the background furniture in focus made for a much better image, I thought.

A clever interpretation. The room scene is nicely composed and your model looks reflective. I find the brown background distracting. I am not sure about the blurry frame.
