Portrait of a budding artist       ©2013 Mepo
Canon EOS REBEL T3i       20th place, 21 points
1/59s, f5, ISO 400, 928mm, Normal Program, Pattern, flash

Post-Processing: Crop, adjust to 8x10 format utilizing rule of thirds. Correct red eye. Process with Topaz simplify in cartoon setting.       Extra Info: I wanted to show the basic openings in any face and this young lady was kind enough to let me take her portrait.

Thanks for the comments - always appreciated.
Jade - the original was sharp as a tack. but my pp got me a big hug :-)
kerszkavet - thanks for the detailed comment. I did make one of the eyes only from another shot but wanted to do something different for a change.

interesting idea, and use of post processing to achieve it. it doesn't entirely work for me - my thought was that this was a really intriguing portrait shot (as titled) and not really a study of the eyes/mouth/nostrils. maybe tighter cropping, maybe altering the pose to remove that right arm from the shot, would have made your interpretation of the challenge more obvious.
would a shot - using this treatment - of just the eye communicated your idea - or would it have just looked odd?

Cartoon setting killed this for me. I think if this was truly in focus, you did a disservice to what could have been.

I chose this process because I want to expand my ability and because I take a lot of photos of young people and have learned that they are very happy when I apply this type of processing to the photos I take of them. They much prefer it to a "straight" photo. This was a very light application of the cartoon process. I'm content as my model, who is a fantastic paint (oil, water, etc) artist has chosen to use this image as her avatar. Glad you liked the subject, she is a beauty in more ways than one.

Lovely subject with good lighting. Perhaps a bit too much of the bland negative space. The cartoon processing ruins this one for me as it created distracting artifacts. Please tell us why you chose this process.
