  #136 Where You Live

Tujunga Wash       ©2013 ysal
Panasonic DMC-GF1       20th place, 30 points
1/2500s, f3.2, ISO 200, 40mm, Normal Program, Spot, no flash

Post-Processing: Converted to B&W, adjusted exposure and brightness, de-noised, cropped, using PS Elements.       Extra Info: This is the mouth of the Big Tujunga Creek which flows out of the Verdugo Mountains next to where I live. It is essentially a dry river bed. Houses cannot be built due to flood concerns, so instead they built this beautiful golf course. The mountains in the background are not snow-covered, they are just rocks shining in the setting sun. By the way, we are only 20 minutes from downtown Los Angeles!

Love the contrasts in this photograph.

Thanks all. I thought the color version was rather boring (I'll post one on outtakes) because this is Southern California desert where there is no vegetation on the mountains (brown) with autumn vegetation at lower elevation (more brown). I was hoping the setting sun would add some drama, but it only added more.....yes, brown... The sky was kind of hazy and not very blue either.

What a glorious view! I'm not sure B&W was the best choice, as I would think the blue sky would be stunning.

The black and white treatment here makes it hard to see the detail of the photo. More variance in textures is needed.

was the sunset the determining factor in the use of B and white. an outtake of the colour version would be nice to see.

Great vista; I'd love to see the colour version - unsure why you went black and white in such a low contrast setting.
