Panasonic DMC-FZ30       17th place, 42 points
1/30s, f2.8, ISO 80, 35mm, Normal Program, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: 2 image HDR       Extra Info: I love looking skyward in the forest in the dead of winter, just as the sun is rising; my eyes journey the upward routes to the furthest reaches -- and then launch from there beyond.

See outtakes for the original. Thank you for your votes and comments. Each one is appreciated.

This is really "in your face" but I love it! I'm a real sucker for textures, and the HDR maximizes that.

cookiejar It was a throw away shot but the others were worse.

oof I liked the smokey look but it is unnatural.

fc I thought about rotating the whole to portrait mode but it lost a lot of impact.

mrsawyer I liked the perspective most - thanks.

eagle1 See outtakes. HDR was the only way I found to give it punch.

Nice capture of the early morning light that brings out the textual qualities in the bark and snow. You show a good eye for pattern with this composition.

a stunning photo in photographic angle.. but then over processing played some destructive role too, making it look like smoke and coal particles sticking on snow.

I am not a fan of HDR. the sky is unnatural with the grey colouring where as the sky in other parts is white
i would have changed the point of view to make more of tree trunks in a rectangle format and this would have reduced the grey spots

A fine use of HDR in moderation! Very dramatic perspective. High in my favs.

I don't understand the need for HDR here, but I very much like the perspective and lighting effect.
