Post-Processing: PS Elements: Cropped, adjusted brightness & shadows, sharpened.       Extra Info: Work has been too busy for me to go shooting lately, so I put out some bird seeds in the backyard to see if anything would show up. This was the only somewhat photogenic bird that day....

Ah Jade, I failed to mention that I live in Southern California where winter temperatures are often in the 80's. The white background you see is not snow, but my neighbor's white exterior wall.

Sounds cold! Unless you are shooting through a window. Either way, this is a fabulous image. I've tried shooting birds but have been spectacularly unsuccessful. Maybe patience is what I have been lacking. Thanks for the tips.

Thank you so much for all your kind comments. Yes, I also wish that branch was not there but I was at the mercy of the little bird!

Jade - I have no real secrets or tricks, just lots of patience! I put out bird seeds regularly so they come to expect it. I try to pick a feeding location near a photogenic tree/shrub because birds tend to stage themselves there in between feedings. Then I set up a chair next to the shrub where the lighting is right and wait for a bird to land in just the right spot. I usually take a book out there and wait, and wait, and......

I like this shot, as I know birds don't sit long in a pose!

Good sharpness in the bird. Maybe I would have cropped a bit more from the left side. In my favorites.

I like the framing, sharpness, color, and lighting. Too bad about leaf blocking the breast. Good job! In my favs.

I think he's wonderfully photogenic, and the blurred splashes of colour in the foreground compliment rather than detract.

Good sharp focus to the head. It looks like it is in a cage of branches.

Great shot, tack sharp, and such a small bird. Now if only the one foreground branch wasn't there....Audubon - almost. Top 5. (Wish I could capture a shot like this. Very very nice. I hope you give us some tips on how you did it.)

I think you have a wonderful entry considering your limited schedule. To bad couldn't get a clearer shot without tree twigs in way but also in a way the twigs in front do give a more natural feel. Color on bird is great.

Love how sharp and detailed this guy is. Beautiful colors too. It can be tricky to get a shot like this between the branches. Good work on focusing. I love that you just stepped outside and got lucky. I can relate to being too busy with work. It really gets in the way doesn't it!

like this one as the bird fills the frame and you have no twigs etc covering the face and you have eyes with a nice sharpness
