Thanks for your votes and comments. I thought this would not be universally well accepted so I'm pleased to see many liked this enough to give me your vote.

mrsawyer, This was shot in the dark with one clear (bulb) incandescent light source which I moved into two different positions to get two different light and shadow effects and then overlaid the two images in GIMP layers.

I thought sure this would place even higher (it was my #1). No matter - as it is a beautiful image and well done, Jade.

Congrats for your double top ten. This one has some interesting interplay of shadows and reflections. How many light sources did you use?

    Thanks for the comments.

I like the presentation because it is has a different "finish" yet still is obviously a photograph. I'm happiest though with the composition which I feel is just about right and for me, the toughest part of any still life to get right (see outtakes).

(BTW I think the different light patterns from using different lighting angles is what makes the shot work, though, yes, the fruit is overripe and, no, the reflection is not monochrome - there is some colour there.)

The unnatural lighting effect adds an unusual and interesting twist to a common still life. I like it. I'd experiment with some other non-traditional non-straight-on views of this. Has a certain 17th century Dutch painterly quality - or, add some dust and cobwebs and it would fit right into Miss Havisham's place.

Nice set up, not sure if I like the reflections.

You've achieved a very interesting effect with the combination of the two photos. The interplay of the shadows in really intriguing. Can't say I like the overall effect, but I certainly appreciate the technical skill.

Very classy and very impressive - the light, the shadows and the reflections are all gorgeous.

What an artistic image! I do find it a bit odd how the reflection has no color. Still, a nice shot.

Not sure I understand the post processing, but the effect is a luxurious shot with much depth and richness of color/tone. A favorite.

Not sure what you were trying to present here but the fruit all appear to be over-ripe which makes it unattractive to me. The grey light works very well to illustrate the china though.
