Groan, groan and double groan :-)

To pun is ineluctable,
to disdain bovine.

With apologies to Alexander Pope.

Michael, it's been said before but you still crack me up and I'm not yolking (or is that yoking? - I'm feel like I'm being drawn back in the harness of Lo's kine - though it may be time to stop kidding around, to stop trying to milk a pun, on becalf of all that's decent and pasteur - though by now I'm sure the point is moo-t). (Holy cow, that's bad!)

Hi Jade - Your Neat comment was very witty. I'm constantly amazed at your mental acuity especially considering your diet - I trust you get a discount from your egg supplier.

I have to wonder if our inclination to things grounded has anything to do with flying. Certainly most of my passengers seemed happiest when they got back to ground.

I'm off to get my eyes checked - I really liked this image :-)

ysal See my note to Mepo and Phil 99. Opposing views but equally valid.

Lo The "soft" background was the result of a true high key effect in lighting (see outtakes).

eagle1 I'm thinking there is more I could have done with the composition but not having any good idea on what to add thought perhaps less is more so I left it alone.

KJW, dk, fc All natural too. See outtakes.

babysister The pp was minimal so that might be the cleverest part of it. :)

cookiejar Appreciate the comment and tie in to painting. Glad it worked for you.

The bottom part (reflection on the surface) is distracting. Cropping tighter on just the center of the flower would have made this a beautiful shot.

Michael, didn't realize that technique was Anita's...;-)
So happy to see someone liked my hard line and that it helps anchor the image which was exactly my thought rather than have the flower floating. I'm partial toward a sense of orientation to images and having objects "grounded". I also agree with the grain; that is part of what I tried to correct by use of selective blur.

Neat technique going on in the background to re-enforce the sunburst appearance - very understated which is good. Can't say I like the grain in the reflections but that's minor. The hard line on the right is perfect and provides and anchor for the image. I don't have enough knowledge to judge the high key attributes especially with the bold colours but I like the result a lot. Very well done.

This is beautifully "in your face". Love the vibrant colour and the softened background.

Beautiful entry, really like the contrast of the yellow flower and the bright background.

Phil99 Appreciate the detailed critique. I, too, wondered about the line and the reflection but decided I wanted that in to create interest and something a bit more complex than just an isolated flower. I did wonder if it was a distraction and played the edge with smudge to create what I hoped to be a watercolour effect.

Great! central darker/saturated, progressively less so toward the periphery...nice touch.

I don't like the bottom 1/10 of the picture because of the edge on the right and the dark reflection which deadens the picture but overall I really love it. I don't think I've ever seen a sense of movement in a flower before but there's a brilliant explosion effect going on here with the far outer petals whizzing out in all directions. Great title. The picture is absolutely superb! :)

I just like it. A great illustration of how the impressionist painters were influenced by photography with their colour selection. Check out the purple shadows.
