RolandB I'm trying to remember how I did this but I know I started with an underlit image with a light face and black hair, darkened it so only the face was visible so that I had created, in effect, a mask, alpha channeled the black out (there go the eyes though I could have used reverse eraser to restore), and used the natural face to overlay on top of the original distorted image. I think that was the technique.

Jade O... Nothing wrong with "overreaching".... shows you can really think outside the box! And I too like the look... except for the eyes! I'm going to have to try this.

Wonder how a curves adjustment would look with a cone :)

Thanks for all your votes and comments.

I thought the eyes would bother some and the too processed look would bother others. I compared with my Main entry but hard to discern how the votes tallied (ie. did voters in the more classic Main photo avoid the unconventional presentation here, and vice versa).

mrsawyer I liked that outline; it reminded me of the presentation of faces in early religious iconic imagery.

Kudos for pushing the envelope - your creativity never seems to fail you.

I almost voted for this one, but the eyes freaked me out. I also found the outline around the face a bit too pronounced.

Agree!!

Lo/SteveBee This rendering was done simply because the straight up candid shot looked too ordinary, and I was looking for something more expressive and some feedback. No doubt, any innovation in artistic expression is met with a healthy dose of skepticism, but somehow we still ended up with impressionist painters, von Gogh, Caravaggio, Botticelli, and so on - NOT to suggest this is anything particularly good even by the standards of this forum but the concept at least, is to try new things and put them out there for feedback -- which is to say I appreciate the negative criticism all the more.

You have certainly captured emotion in this shot. The pp is an interesting effect, but I can't say it appeals to me.

Such a pretty young woman, but I don't get I why you have rendered her in such a creepy, freaky way.

Mepo I like the neck. The nape is one of my favourite parts. ;-) I smoothed the rough transition but like the edginess of the hair as it was originally so I went back to it.

RolandB Hmmm....ambitious. Wonder if that means overreaching? But I like the look.

fc Trust me, it is just the result of fooling around until something looked good.

BarbroS I was going to call it Electric Blue Lady but this is already too close to Electric Lady Land (a favourite public art work in Toronto).

cookiejar I meant to be be different for that engaging effect. Glad it worked for you.

Franz07 Very good! You're channeling Michael's talents. I wonder if you are the only one who recognized this is just a child.

eagle1 I tried more crop but didn't like the effect - this is already cut down from my original entry.

I like this better with a heavy crop from the bottom to eliminate a lot of neck. The blending of the hair at top right is coarse and distracting however I do appreciate how time consuming that can be. I spent about 40 minutes doing this on my entry and it still looks too rough to me. I do like the effect you've crated and the composition. Nice to see original work.

Very ambitious entry. A tighter crop would work better for me. Love the effect of the processing, but the eyes kind of freak me out! Cute girl even with the eyes! Good luck.

Striking effect of your processing, kind of fun. I like the composition - but the exaggerated intensity of the blue-indigo shadows do bother me.

Weirdly engaging. The bold post processing makes an intriguing photograph.

Jade, ...? This must be you! Otherwise this is my congratulation!
Beautiful eyes and hair. Has a lot of the appearance of a role playing. One of those my kids play all the time.

Nice composition and I applaud your creative use of editing. I think it could even use a bit more cropping to have that beautiful face cover more of the frame. Nevertheless, a top pick for me.
