Kruger National Park

International Giraffe day was June 21. Africa's population of giraffe has decreased by 40% in the last 15 years, mostly as a result of poaching and habitat loss. This may soon be a rare sight.

Oh ok I kind of like the high key look, will look at outakes now.

Oh WOW yes the outakes were great, the edited version of the above much better, but I love 'horns' super shot!!

From Hero to Zero in one Challenge! Lol! Well I still averaged 17th on the last two Challenges...

(Neat this is the unprocessed version straight from the cam. See outtakes for the slight PP'd one I wanted to enter).

BTW Thanks for all your comments! Each is appreciated.

How can you come first one month and last the next, haha sorry just having a dig at you ;)

Must be organised next time, only three wks to do it in:)

BTW I wouldn't of picked this as last no way, I thought the PP was kind of funky!

I can really see the potential in this one, though it is a bit bare bones as presented. Love the interplay of the three giraffes. I have a photo from too many years ago that I will share in the outtakes.

Mepo f/c Definitely my outtake after minimal pp is better but I missed deadline by about a minute. I threw this entry in because I saw/see the artistic potential and was so pleased I got the intended high key on the first shot (and you don't get a second shot with a group like this.)

Are you sure the one on the right is real? I can see a large tag for a zipper between the shoulder blades and the outline of a gorilla inside who has probably been trained to operate the mechanism :-)

The blown bits are unfortunate because I'm fascinated by the positioning and inter-reaction that you have captured between the three animals. Absolutely brilliant timing for the shot.

a tighter crop on the necks leaving out the bodies at the bottom ??
i prefer your main entry to this one

See outtakes. The highlights need to be overblown to get the effect which regrettably is diminished by the late timing of the entry as a almost missed the deadline. The idea was to get spots on white and it (almost) worked straight out of the cam. This was deliberately high key.

Good have been a fabulous photo, but the highlights are too overblown - and there's not sufficient background to "anchor" the animals in the frame.

Before the comments start, I note I almost missed the deadline so I quickly uploaded this. I did pp out the tree and fix the blown highlight on the right neck but was about a minute late in uploading the pp'd version. (See outtakes.)
