I don't understand the comment pretty complex to deconstruct??? It may be a Canadian, Hillbilly translation thing, I know when I was in Cananda a while ago I was ask if I wanted a servette, I looked at them like ahhh duhhh WHAT.. LOL

Thanks Jade

Deconstruct meaning to take apart the various elements in order to critique individual items (eg. lighting, composition, sharpness, colour, etc.) And I think the word was probably serviette. As in, "You'd better have a serviette if you're going to flop on that chesterfield with a double-double." (Roughly translated into American - Hey, if you're gonna sit on the sofa with a coffee with cream and sugar grab a napkin.) Anyone care to translate into Australian for our friends down under, or into the Queen's English for those across the pond?

For mrsawyer...a few unedited shots...

1. Learning to skate is so much fun!

2. A community gathers in Remembrance.

3. The modern face of our military. As an aside, there were a number of vets there back from recent service in Afghanistan - their faces told another story in itself.

Wow Jade! The expression on your skater's face is priceless. Too bad the hand was not in the frame.

I see what you mean about it being difficult to get a single shot at the gathering for Remembrance Day. So much going on.

Here is my original main entry before processing. I also included pics of the amphibious vehicle.

Here's the shot I might have otherwise entered (didn't know we could get exemptions!) but I doubt it would have done better than 2nd, the winning shot was just too perfect for the theme.

Taken before a 5K charity race, these little girls were being shown how to stretch by their dad:

In retrospect, maybe the background is too busy to make this a winner, but I loved the natural rim lights and expressions.

Jade - what a great turnout for the Remembrance Day ceremonies - It was the same on Parliament Hill. It's so nice to see that kind of recognition being paid. Love the skating shot - your model has a winning smile!

MrSawyer - you really did a great job with the photo - I've never been on a Duck, but it looks like a lot of fun

Steve - I really like the expressions on the girls' faces, but your surfing photo made me think of "Chariots of Fire" and the slo-mo run through the surf.

Littlemav - I love the way the challenges are set up so that you can only see your own comments on a photo until voting has ended. It's a real learning experience at the end when you see how other people interpreted a shot. And we have a great bunch of members who are only too happy to answer questions and help people out (and poke some fun at each other along the way)
