This was my 4th place vote. I started taking these types of candle images but none of mine were as good as your image. Then upon blowing out the candle, I got the idea to try and capture the smoke. Who knows, sometimes you get lucky.

Thanks for the votes. This was one of approximately 25 images. I really liked about 4, equally and flipped a coin. I will post the others in Outtakes.

As I said in my comments, I knew this type of image would be effective, but not worth being incarcerated for, if I got caught. Congrats on a super shot.

I ranked this #1. Loved everything about it. Thought it would have placed higher. Nonetheless, congrats on a top 5.

This was my 3rd place vote. I really liked the image - thought it should have been higher.

Thanks to all who voted for this image and all who commented. I wanted an image that conveyed low-light rather than a "night scene" and was fortunate to come across this vista, relatively late in the evening. Sometimes you get lucky and this was one of them.

Nice idea and well carried out. I can feel the child's anticipation just prior to casting. Well done and perfectly exposed.

Certainly is low-light. I like the idea of the ship's lights being the sole source of illumination; however, the overall image seems to be underexposed, making it difficult to appreciate the ship and foreground details.

Certainly fits the theme. What are the spots in the sky? They look too big to be stars. You certainly have captured the emotion of the children at this celebration. Reminds me of the Anthony Comyn style, which is a compliment.

Interesting take on the theme. I like the abstract nature of this image. Well conceived - in my TT.

Unfortunately, the backyard is so dark, that one does not see many details. IMHO, this sharp contrast with the bright sky is distracting.

I like the idea; however, IMHO, I would have focused mainly on the boat that is illuminated by a single light. The right-hand portion of this image is distracting.

Nicely done. I wonder how the color image looked. I am not sure how much the B&W helps.

Well done. Fits the theme perfectly. I tried several lat night shots and obtained similar brown to black overall tones tones using auto white balance. I also tried using a tungsten setting and obtained a more natural lighting situation. Did you try different light settings?

I was going to take a similar image of a large refinery on the Chicago, Indiana border; however, I was discouraged to do so by the refinery people as well as several local law enforcement agents, who said that taking pictures of these types of installations was illegal. You did a great job and I am envious. Did you worry about potential consequences for taking this image.. High in my TT's.

Classic image for a low-light situation. Some might say it is a bit well-worn but this is well done.

Is this the same gentleman in image 11? If so what a coincidence. Good example of low-light.

Great example of low-light combined with "street photography". You have captured the weariness of the man perfectly.

Well done - I tried several of these types of shots and none came out as well as this one. Great composition.
