Congratulations with your win, what a wondrous photo. In my top ten. Cheers.

Thanks all for your New Years wishes, comments and / or favs.

Our trips (also a lot of walking in the past) have become much less frequent, but we try to continue them at least once a week.

@mrsawyer: Thanks and nice you remember. No, that was just somebody passing by, who made that pic special, for a big part. But often it's indeed my neighbor in those "bike photo's". I sometimes jokingly say he probably has got the most photographed back on flickr (where I mostly post).

All the best to everybody in 2018 and success with whatever may cross your path

What an expressive portrait, with so many emotions showing at once. A whole life speaks out of it. Top favorite.

What a perfectly shot photo of this extraordinary bird. It's almost like it's looking a bit guilty about taking so many fishes at once. The fish certainly don't agree with that, for sure.

Perfectly shot picture of this majestic stairway. I can imagine you won't look too long at it with fear of heights.

A rather overwhelming impression of this almost otherworldly seascape (even without the interesting clouds). A bit of criticism about the loss of detail in the clouds, especially at the left.

      Thanks; Thivi, forkcandles and elliott.

I'd added some editing info too, but somehow it got lost. Anyway: Converted it to B&W (in Gimp), adjusted shadows, did some sharpening and that was about it.

@Thivi: I think my photo's often express serenity (etc.), but there's mostly another side to them as well. Hopefully the photo can still be viewed objectively, apart from the extra info.

Thanks, JohnComyn. I rather not share personal things like this too often on the internet (as has become so common), but in this case I felt I couldn't leave them out.

Thanks everybody for voting and your comments. I will get back to some of them, but first the following:

I received the message about winning this contest just after getting to bed, but although surprised I unfortunately wasn't able to feel happy about it. The day before I got the news that an old friend had passed away. Her life became very troubled and we distanced more and more because of that. I still tried to support her the best I could, like she supported me, when she was able to.

This autumn photo was taken just at the time when I heard she was terminally ill. So especially the title is appropriate in that respect. Even more so because before going to this park I had just offered my condolences to somebody with his brother, who I also knew very well and who’s parents home was nearby this place. After taken the photo it suddenly became very sunny, so I could take some photo’s of the park’s beautiful autumn colors as well. Who knows, thàt was a good sign.

Splendid catch of this spectacular, colorful dragon against that contrasting, black background. The reflection adds an extra touch. Very well positioned, too.

I know it's very hard (sometimes impossible?) to fully keep the details in the sky while focusing on the foreground (or the other way around), but this stunning panoramic landscape is nevertheless one of my top picks

Wonderfully detailed photo of this special bird, against a very complementary background. Not too sure about the center position, though. In my top five favs, anyway. Congrats with this very nice result for your first time entry

One of my top five favs. You captured this romantic looking scene very well, with the reflection as a bonus. Fitting, soft tones. On a critical note: Wasn't there any detail in the sky on the left, or did that get lost by focusing on the main subjects?

I'm a lover of perspective photo's and this is a very spectacular, eye catching one. I know from experience they're often harder to make than it may seem. Very well done (my first place)

I visited an expo of Turner's work last year and the comparison artsy made is indeed fitting. My photo ended 2nd, but this was my personal 2nd place. Congrats.

Good to see the FZ20 is still around and well used, it was the first Panasonic I owned. Lovely dog.

Thanks everybody, for your constructive comments, suggestions and votes, that led to (another) 2nd place.

This was during a sunny, well spent day out with my sister, by train, in februari, last year. Since she's retired we make trips like this more often.

Thanks everybody, for your congratulations, votes and constructive comments.

It's actually the 2nd time I take part in a Panachallenge competition, after the best of 2013 theme (2nd place).

I considered removing the wires, as some suggested, but decided to leave that bit of reality in, because it was already dream-like enough.

I always strive for taking photos that only need moderate editing, or else the danger exist it won't have much to do with photography / the thrill of capturing that special moment anymore.

Would be the perfect postcard, the way it's showing the (almost unreal) beauty and variety of the place. Splendid photo!

One of my top favourites. Original angle and fitting post processing, for a dramatic effect, where the HDR isn't overdone.

Thanks very much for your votes, comments and suggestions. What a result for my first entry in a Panachallenge competition!

This was indeed a decisive moment, that I hardly succeeded to capture, because these (traditional) churchgoers suddenly crossed my path, while I had to go into another direction myself (symbolical, with my background) and there was an impatient motorist behind me. I hadn’t planned to go to this city and at first got lost in another part of it. So much the more a special moment.

Thanks again, all the best for 2014 and until the next entry
