Thanks all for the helpful comments. And Jade - too bad I won't win, because I'd likely make my challenge Sunsets!

Thanks for all the kind comments. I feel a little sheepish as I didn't intentionally plan to shoot for this Panachallenge. I saw another bird come to feed on the seed that fell out of the overhead feeder onto the snow so I pointed my camera at it and got a similar result. Turns out the combination of fresh snow, spring sunshine, aperture-priority @f/2.8, and center-weighted metering pushed the shutter speed to its maximum of 1/2000 - which was still too long. I liked the result and remembered that Panachallenge had a High Key challenge going and I found that I only had a few minutes to post before the submissions closed so I went back to the window and [intentionally this time] caught this one, cropped it, and posted it before it was too late.

I likes your Main entry as well but missed the "top". This is a rather unique perspective that I find rather pleasing.

I wasn't really expecting him to show up but the 2nd curtain flash is a good idea.

I like how the slow shutter speed enhances the frenzied feeding of the Koi - well done!

I really like how moving the camera against multiple light sources results in a bunch of unsynchronized yet similar waveforms.

Nice shot - almost looks like you've added a striped awning to the facade.

I can't view this without my mind rotating the image - very nice.

How did you get the fairly static tree tunk and limbs? Did you hold the camera still for most of the exposure and rotate it towards the end?

I love the colors of the cars and the movement of the camera, which translates well to the movement of the cars. I really like this effort - even better than your Main entry.

I love the detail and the fact that you were able to capture the full travel of the pendulum. It must "tick" off each second!

Lovely image with beautiful gold tones. I'm surprised that f/8@ISO400 didn't blow out more.

I do wish it were leveled a bit better.

Wow - hard to believe this was hand-held! A couple of other entries really could have benefited from a tripod, but you've pulled it off rather well here.

I like what you've done here - and especially with your Open entry. You didn't make the race in person, so it's a good thing it was on the tele!

Lovely image - I like the flickering candle flames. Did you fan them at all or did they just flicker in their own?

It also took me a second look to realize you only had three candles, not five!

Nice shot of a hard-earned reward - congrats on the perfect game! I like the aspect and lighting you used. I only wish you'd cleaned or polished the ring first as the dust and hair are a bit distracting. My best game is a paltry 199, so I have 200 on my bucket list. I do personally know two people that have bowled 300 games and my dad used to pitch horseshoes against Walter Ray Williams, Jr.

Only 5 or 6 shots? Nice hit rate and result!

Was it a manual or motorized zoom?

Yes, Jade, that's a lot of action! This was a rather large fire with flames that reached 20 feet earlier in the evening, resulting in a lot of embers that flew up when a new log was added.

I imagine it took some testing to synchronize the strobe to the metronome and then quite a few shots to finally get the symmetry in the result. I can also imagine the resulting strobe headache - no pain, no gain!

I like the composition with the overhead light ribbons. The moving people only add to the effect.

This shows it's often not that bad to "fall short" - especially when comparing one's work to those considered masters! I think the reflection adds a lot to this image.

Cool ring - and I like how its shadow is reflected inside the ring itself

I really like the effect created by "taking a moment" to get a photo. Nice shot!

It's too bad a tripod wasn't allowed - would have liked the static people and tiles a bit sharper.

Great minds think alike! I had done this exact same shot using my iPod Touch for the stopwatch. I used my intervalometer to take many shots hoping to get one where only a particular second was shown but couldn't quite catch that.

Well done - I see how actually not nailing it solved your vibration problem! I wonder if shooting it backwards may have possibly worked better - starting with the hammer resting on the nail for part of the exposure and then swinging it up off the nail?!

I had tried a similar shot by dropping an object and using 2nd curtain flash but couldn't get anything I liked. But I can feel your pain in taking lots of misses before even getting close!

I assume you were wearing your safety goggles as instructed in the hammer head!
