Zoom Warp - Autumn Leaves       ©2013 Edward
Nikon D7100       9th place, 90 points
1s, f22, ISO 400, 16mm, Manual, Center Weighted Average, no flash
Post-Processing: Increased saturation.       Extra Info: This is a shot of leaves of a fruitless pistachio tree in full autumn colors. The warp effect is created by zooming in (or out . . . I can't remember which) as I pressed the shutter button. I had to take 5-6 shots before I got one I liked.

I appreciate your support anyway, Mepo. I kind of knew it was somewhat of a risk in submitting this more abstract image, but I liked it too much myself to not "go for it".

Can't understand why my two top choices didn't fare better. I figured the abstracts would sweep the field! Congrats anyway - nice shot.

Per-fect! I often try to zoom in/out, but I guess I need more practice. I like the colors!

Think you added too much saturation, but still like the effect.

What a great abstract! The colours are really vibrant. Many years ago, we used to go to carnival, and you could drop paint onto a spinning paper to create abstracts like this.

Zooming during the exp. time is a good idea. In my favorites.

I played with this technique but didn't achieve anything as nice. I think you zoomed out since the universe is still expanding :-) In my top picks

Sorry forkcandles; I'm not sure what you mean by "a short stop during exposure". I focused on the center area and turned my zoom ring at slow speed (without stopping) while the shutter button was pushed, if that helps.

good result with the zooming. had you tried a a short stop during exposure ???

Only 5 or 6 shots? Nice hit rate and result!

Was it a manual or motorized zoom?

A little too abstract for my taste by very effective presentation; a riot of colour and flora.
