I love this shot more each time I look at it. I think it's the absolute calm or contentment that I sense in the fisherman. Congratulations - well deserved win!

i love the way the seat almost disappears.
interesting choice of black and white, makes it look classic. not normally a fan of vignettes, but it works here.

Joanna,
Appreciate your commenting on my photo. High key photos typically have little or no detail in the background so DOF is not needed or desired. Here the background serves only to establish a sense of place --the subject is the fisherman.
Best regards,
Steve

Wonderful shot. To me to see this in full color just wouldn't have same effect. Would like to see original in outtakes. Definitely works for me.

The bucket is so bright, at first glance, it almost looks like he's sitting on air. I like the focus, lighting and textures here. The vignette is also nicely done. In my favs.

Not your typical high key subject but I think it works here. I hope he caught something.

Love this shot - I would have put back the tip of the rod and deleted the handle on the plastic bucket. excellent composition and tones may well end up at #1.

well done. Just about like the whole thing. The brightening vignette a bit much - particularly as I want to see the end of the rod. Small thing though. A situation made for high key shot.

Great photo though more dof would help . I would have composed so his head was not cut by the horizon.

To me this is has all the essential composition elements nailed, and the subject is wonderful. Meets the challenge spirit as well and is a top favorite for me.

You're right, he does bear an uncanny resemblance to Ernest Hemingway! Love the composition and the high key effect.

This photo is my favorite in this challenge. It has story and technically is in the frames of the theme of the contest. I like the composition and the light.

this is I think is the main winner
well executed with subject and shapes

I adore this. I can see it hanging on a wall. My only suggestion to improve it would be to brush back in some definition on the left side of the bucket under the man's rear end. As it is the bucket and the sand merge. Just a defining vertical line to divide it would be nice. My #1 by far.

I have to vote for this. The sea is my favourite subject in high key photos. Are you sure this isn't my across the street neighbour? it looks very like him! Love the delicate tones in the water. and the composition.
