1/250s, f4.2, ISO 125, 40mm, Normal Program, Pattern, no flash
 
Post-Processing: Straightened and cropped. Adjusted brightness and contrast. Completely de-saturated all colors except on the locomotive and girl.       Extra Info: This is the end of a three mile miniature railway line (15" gauge) where the train locomotive is uncoupled, turned around on a turntable (by hand ), and shuttled back to the other end of the train, via a short siding, for the return journey.

Jun 26, 2018		     Welcome back to Panachallenge, Maike 13. I think your concept was a good one, but for me, the grey background deadened the photo. I don't know if a closer crop to the girl and the engine in colour would have been better. Perhaps you could post your original in the outtakes and ask for suggestions.

Jun 25, 2018		     Thanks very much for all the comments. The giving and receinging comments is my favorite part of these challenges.
I guess I would have been better to concentrate on just the red locomotive, and I did consider this, but I was intrigued by the girl's apparent fascination with the little red locomotive. She was standing staring at it the whole time it was rotating on the turntable, almost as if hypnotised. So I was curious if i could convey this connection to a viewer of the photograph, and therefore left only the locomotive and girl in color, to try and illustrate and emphasis this girl-locomotive connection. The girl was intended to be an integral part of the photo and not just an incidental distraction.
Obviously this didn't work as well as I had hoped :-).

Jun 24, 2018		     Not sure why you didn't use a larger F stop, maybe 1.2 to blur the background out, plus the child doesn't need to be there, her green top is a distraction, IMHO.

Jun 22, 2018		     Potentially interesting subject but the composition not so much. Hard to know if the brightly colored girl or train is the intended subject. It looks look the saturation was drawn way down everywhere else

Jun 22, 2018		     I'm not sure if I like the de-saturated background. The gray man to the left is a bit creepy. It looks like there's enough green in the background to still bring out the red train. And I think the presence of the girl is distracting. I may focus just on the train and the "gray" man in color.
