Hi Jade. Nice to see you dropping by. I jump in every now and then, although not nearly as much as I used to. Hope you are doing well.

Cute little bird, Lesser Goldfinch, I think? They are very jumpy and difficult to photograph, you need a LOT of light for fast shutter speed. Your photo is slightly soft and the bird get a bit lost in the plant, but great try.

I like the composition and the pose of the bird. Some movement blur but the eye is still nicely sharp. The colors look a bit off for me, too much blue in the grays I think.

Qixll—It IS a goldfinch, although I was not specific with the ID. It is a Lesser Goldfinch, green-backed, Western race. We have had a nesting pair around for years. I have better shots, just not during the challenge time limits.

It's not a Goldfinch - i wonder what it actually is...

i like the composition and the colours, and the angled light.
Shame that the depth of field is so narrow (understandable at that focal length) - would have been nice for the wings to be sharper.
Must have been tricky light - and this is an interesting picture

Nice capture of the bird, but I'm afraid it's a bit lost in all the shrubbery.

Thanks, Steve. Points well taken. Actually, not trying to win this one. Just helping to pad the entries and let people know that I am still around.

A very pretty subject and natural surroundings. The main issues are softness of focus, highlights too bright (bird's chest and some flowers), and shadows too dark (bird's back). Highlight and shadow issues are generally fixable in post, especially if you shoot in raw.
