Thanks everyone for the encouraging comments and suggestions. ysal: A few too many cooks in the kitchen, what with my wife, two (grown up) daughters, and one of our son-in-laws (who's a professional chef), led to a couple of slightly tense cooking technique discussions, but it all worked out in the end, and the food did turn out great :-). aoc46: Perceptive comment. The perceived depth of field is actually the unfortunate side effect of my composing this in post rather than with the camera. It's actually a rather severe crop of a much larger original, so I was considerably further away from the nativity centrepiece than it appears (no focus stacking). It was only when we were about to sit down for dinner that it belatedly occurred to me that the table setting might make a possible entry, and I only had time for a quick overall shot of the table, hoping I could edit it into something semi-decent later. I agree with you that a more blurred backtground, such as I would have obtained had this been composed with the camera, would have been better.

Nice festive still life.

Focus stacked? Otherwise, I'm surprised at so much DOF at F2.8 and 24mm. Though it's very well-executed, the background sharpness actually distracts from the interesting foreground; the more distant glasses, plates, etc., don't add anything new to the communication.

A beautiful, traditional setting for Christmas, which makes me think of family gathering together to enjoy good food and good company.

What a beautifully laid out table!Lovely nativity centrepiece. I like the diagonals of table runner, glasses and place settings.

A beautiful Christmas dinner setting! I hope the food was just as good! There are lots of holiday subjects here and you captured them very nicely.

Very nicely composed. Change this to B&W and it will fit nicely in the next challenge.
