Extra Info:
This was taken in the Egyptian section of our local art museum. The Ibis is in a glass case in the centre of the display area with the paintings hanging on a wall about 20 feet away. I thought the paintings made a nice backdrop to the shot.
Ancient Egyptians believed that animals were incarnations of their Gods, in earthly form. They worshiped the sacred Ibis as the god Thoth, who was responsible for maintaining the universe, judging the dead, and overseeing systems of magic, writing, and science.

I liked this shot very much. The colour and lighting really brought out the texture of the sculpture.

Attractive and interesting shot, very well composed and presented.

Like how the panels pick up the color of the statue. Unfortunate that the right panel is cut off as it is, but I assume that may have been dictated by the dimensions of the case.

You were right about the paintings - they make the perfect backdrop to this impressive sculpture. I like the centred composition and richness of the colours.

I agree with your Extra Info that the inclusion of the artwork in the background adds a very nice context to the subject. Colors are rich and lighting is very nice. I would love to see the bird's face from the side.

I really enjoyed your fresh take on the theme. I agree the painting really help the composition.

forkcandles: Thanks for the comments. I used this particular angle to avoid the rather cliched, typical, curved bill shot of an Ibis. There is just a hint of the bill here, enough, I hoped, to prompt the viewer to imagine the rest, thus involving them more with the shot.
