  #65 Unusual/different angles
Entry 1 of 27

Splash!       ©2009 Franz07
Panasonic DMC-FZ5       1st place, 169 points
1/1600s, f6.3, ISO 80, 36mm, Aperture Priority, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Rotated, raised brightness, contrast and saturation, cropped and downsized       Extra Info: The picture is rotated, but I hope you noticed that the water does not flow out of the bottle. The rotation is applied just for its visual effect. Actually the bottle is turned upright (almost) and the water is winding up into the sky.
The "Splash" happened shortly after... ;-)

Lo, thanks a lot. Every time you comment I know I did well!

Rafael, I had a look and realized that it took less than 5 minutes to get 39 shots of this setting (burst mode) after a bunch of long-winded attempts to do some really complicated stuff. Life could be so easy sometimes...
This was a spontaneous idea during breakfast on a Sunday morning.

kjwags, wrosenthal, Alisande, akebono and Mepo, thanks and Cheers to you! ;-)

Una, Jade, thanks! and Una, it's a honor for me to end up on your hard disk ;-)

And finally Billy, many thanks to you for this great theme! I admire your creativity and your different view on things and this makes me even more proud to win this one!

Ahhh, life can be so sweet! Work was long and exhausting, but I survived. Now the kids are full and asleep, TV shows a comedy-show, I've got some delicious drink ...and I won the main!!! Yesss!
And I already submitted another theme... :-D Hope you will like it!

So my dear friends, thanks again for your very nice comments! It's a real pleasure to be part of such a great, friendly, nice, helpful, motivating (to mention but a few) community!

Congratulations Franz! :-) I would like to see some outtakes. It was interesting to read how you did it (rotating the bottle...). I use to save my favourite pictures (from the dpreview forums mostly) to my disk, I hope you don't mind if I add yours as well. :-)

Congratulations. Probably the most unusual angle so a deserved winner. Would be interested to know how many you needed to shoot before you got this one.

(oh and one of three 'splash; entries. Lots of similar thinking going on)

Lots of out-takes? Very interesting contrast between the sky and bottle and certainly is an unusual angle!

Well this looks to me like the most unusual angle on show here. So my No. 1 shot. And very nicely shot it is too. Very well done.

Certainly unusual angle and great timing here, also like the nice reflections in the bottle. TT for me, well done!!

I like the whole picture, but what I like most is the little street of stars along the bottle. (Bottle?) In my TT.

Very inventive. It's going to be interesting to see how you achieved it. In my tt

I hope the "splash" missed the camera! Well suited to the subject and the 'frozen' water gives a great effect.

Every time I look at this photo, it amazes me. Aside from the movement and the angle, the colour is absolutely beautiful. Great shot!

Thank you very much for your comments so far. Taking these pictures was a big fun. Getting wet was not the problem. My FZ5 has a tube and an UV-filter - I wouldn't have done this with the LX3 though. The biggest problem was to hold the camera firmly to the bottle while spinning it around to bring the water into rotation... :-D

And yes, you are right. The sky was dull that day. I tried to bring more color to it with Picasas tools, but raising the saturation more than this made the bottle look unnatural...
I'm happy you like it anyway. ;-)

Though the colors could have been nicer this setting brought so much fun that I would love to share some outtakes if you like.

Oh my! Is your camera waterproof?

Wonderful idea and execution. Very clever indeed. The detail in bottle and water (where it is in focus) is wonderful and really makes the pic. A little improvement could probably be made in the sky. The clouds and blue are a little flat and 'middle grey' Could probably brighten the clouds and punch up the sky for the extra point. A clear TT none-the-less.

interesting twist, definitely a different angle taken on this shot. Looks like you put some thought into this to come up with end result. TT worthy to me.

If you have to explain it...
A fresh (soon to be refreshing) perspective. The sky looks a little washed out though and more saturated may have balanced and played off the blue in the bottle.
