Diamond       ©2020 SteveBee
Panasonic DC-G9       1st place, 202 points
1/320s, f7.1, ISO 200, 14mm, Landscape, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Converted to B&W. Decreased exposure and highlights, increased shadows and contrast.       Extra Info: This track intersection is called a diamond and, like the gem stone, it's rare. The train station is historic.

    Steve Bee,
You made double this time in 2020s.
I remember you won in 2010s
and even you won in 2000s
It is not small by any means, a person winning in 3 decades

A double win. The quality shows. I had this second and second first but only because the personal element was more compelling. This may well be technically superior but either way it's a fine image showing off your skills admirably. I love that 14mm. I finally figured out the asymmetry which was bothering me but it is so subtle even I had trouble finding it consciously. The two rails don't quite hit the front corners exactly but it is the irregular polygons (trapeziums) that from coming out of the lower two corners of the diamond that are unequal in shape and size. The left appears longer and narrower and the right shorter and squarer. And while the lower rails exit the corners almost exactly, the corresponding other side of the rails exit the frame but slightly off level. My eye picks up the lack of symmetry in what should be a symmetrical image and sub-consciously I was bothered by it. I was thinking it was the building with a non-symmetric background and foreground on each side but I think now it is the rails in the foreground.

Great shot for the challenge. Centered composition works perfectly here and so does the black and white processing. The attention is upon the intersection (I never knew such formations existed) and yet there is also the context provided by the background. Well done. My top pick.

Absolutely outstanding, both from a photographic perspective and from a historical one as well. Great composition and detail.

Great shot - very well done! Like how the lines in the clouds seem to mirror those of the clouds. The slight perspective distortion of the poles, etc., helps reinforce the sense of low-angle perspective.

For a perfectly symmetrical photo with its technical excellence, my impression is that it is somehow unbalanced. It may be the building. No matter it is vying for my top pick.

Very cool tracks, never noticed an intersection like this before. Is that beautiful building the train station?

Interesting junction. I've never seen one of those before. Makes a great subject for the challenge theme.

    oooh golly great find
the monochrome works so well and station framed dead centre
we have one of these outside Newark and the mainline is four tracks with a single track for local traffic.
on the main line trains are reaching 125 mph
