Thank you for sharing your Flickr collection! We must live close because I see many of the same birds, except for the Stellar Jay which I know are here (Southern California) but I have never seen one.

That's a really unusual shot - I'm so used to seeing them near feeders that I was actually surprised to see this little guy eating fruit. Kudos on the capture - they are so quick.

It must be amazing to have such interesting birds visiting you - and pose so helpfully!
Not knowing your circumstances, I hope this made staying at home a bit more manageable for you.

Jade, I was going for that mottled background to get an oil painting effect. Thought it made it more interesting. Perhaps not. Also, a higher shutter speed would stop the wing movement, but then it looks frozen. I have tried that in the past and don't like the look. I prefer the sense of movement.

The framing, lighting, and clean subject matter are great positives as is the composition which is very good. Whatever is going on with the background is pulling all of my attention from the subject; it almost looks like a plate of mottled glass. If that is an artifact of processing, then there needs to be some further pp done to smooth it out. The hummer is pretty and the lit wing is a stand out element but 1/400s is too slow I think to capture the full detail, or perhaps the focus is off. At 600mm you don't have a lot of depth of field to play with perhaps.

Great capture - I didn't know hummingbirds did that (suck from fruit, I mean). Might crop some from top and sides to enhance composition.

you I expect have fun with these birds and well captured with the wing shape and framing. I knew these birds are small but had not seen one until my visit to Canada and a local park had some feeders hanging.
The were very fast

The bird is a bit soft but the interest is high in this image. I've never seen a hummingbird go after a fruit.
