Think I want to add a comment to catch up with all of you who said nice things after my first note. You are all very generous and I am proud to be associated with the talented photographers who contribute to these challenges. It is fun, educational, and, of course, challenging. Best wishes for the holidays and New Year to you all.

Many congrats Bill!! I ran out of time to leave comments, but this was my #1, so I'm extra happy you won :-D
I loved that "postcard" look that Elliot has pointed. Wonderful scenery, and the little person adds exactly was I was looking for in the challenge, that extra "feeling" touch...
A superb image and a very deserved win in such strong competition, also a well deserved prize after so many nice entries in the past challenges, well done!!! :-)

Wow! I just hope for the TT, and if I am lucky the top five. This is a big surprise and I am happy that you liked it and grateful for your vote!

This was taken just last weekend at Yosemite on our first winter trip there. It is a stunning place and inspires even the average photographer. Ansel Adams, of course, had the place pegged and nobody comes close to how he saw and interpreted the unique beauty of that National Park. While there, we had the great good fortune to meet Dayton Duncan, who with Ken Burns produced the PBS series on the National Parks. We also met Shelton Johnson who appeared in the series as the spokesperson for Yosemite. Again, many thanks and if you have never been to Yosemite, put it on your soon to do list.

Thanks again.

Congrtulations, Bill! This Challenge was, I think, one of the tops for depth of good entries and clearly many had trouble getting the votes down to ten. To come out on top is a real tribute!

Beautiful! A great shot that reminds me of artful paintings.
The picture is gorgeous as it is, the colorful dressed person adds the especial touch. Very good finding!

Great shot - in my tt

I love the almost monochrome feel to this, and the small touches of colour makes it feel even colder than pure mono.
The composition works very well with the overarching branch taking the eye down to the small figure. A top 3 shot for me.

This captures the theme perfectly. The figure draws us into a beautifully composed shot of a forest in winter.

Dec 18, 2009
A perfect expression of this theme in my view. Well composed as well with the brighter coloured human balancing the larger darker tree and giving it scale. The little touch of pine green in the foreground helps to add depth.

A minor thing, in a perfect world the pine and bigger tree would not be in line

A clear favourite for me. Probably the way all you northerners see Christmas, for me it is sand surf and BBQs.

great shot for the challenge. would certainly make excellent holiday greeting card. you might even think about getting rid of the remaining brownish leaves. good luck with entry. el

The sense of scale is emphatic here which is tough to achieve with such a confined perspective so full marks for that. The capture of the large tree is well cropped and adds tremendous power to the image. The colour and contrast of the figure is dramatic as well though the figure seems so diminutive to almost appear pasted in. The sense of scale is brought home by that fact, I think, and the sense of place is beautifully captured. As well, because the figure is so dwarfed by the surroundings, it is the surroundings that become the subject of this image. Nice expression of the theme of the Challenge.
