Thanks Jade. And, Mepo, you're on. I will be having mine about 6pm PDT. ;-)

Bill - LOL - Have another scotch with me and the tilt will solve itself :-)

Bill, I agree most with Alberto's comments and really thought this would rank higher. Perhaps some wanted a focal point (a human figure, an umbrella, a ball, ????) I would have tried correcting in GIMP with the perspective tool simply stretching the bottom left until the column was vertical.

Your experienced photog eye shows here. I really think this one in particular is superior to my entry so I still would be pleased with this. The voting seems to be getting less wonky but still the finishes are not always lining up quite as I would expect.

Thanks Boar and Mepo. Mepo, you can read my response to Jade below about the distortion . However, I have to say I did not see the remaining 'tilt' until it was pointed out. I guess my eye sight is getting bad, or else I am in a perpetual tilt myself. Looks to me like the far right column is straight, but the far left is leaning a shade.

I wonder if perspective correction could help remove the twist in the building.

A classical subject for a classical challenge...The contrast is the main element for a b/w shot...Here it abounds! :-))

Thanks Elliott. I am glad that it worked for you because contrast was what I was going for here. A 'hard paper' look, like a 3 or 4.

Hi Jade. Thanks for the comment. I tried to compensate for the lens distortion, but your keen eye could see that I was able to fix it up to a point. You should have seen it before! The gamma adjust referred to is a slider in the exposure adjustment in CS3. I set the camera to underexpose and at low saturation. I compensate for that in PP. All that is done on the color version before conversion to b&w.

i like the geometry in the composition. contrast is what impresses me most in the b&w photos. nice job. el

Clearly in my top 5; I love the impact and exposures but would like to know what gamma adjustment you applied. The pillars appear remarkably flat, and that here adds to the stylistic element of the image. My only criticism is the lens distortion which make the pillars lean inward slightly toward the centre of the frame which is especially noticeable in the left most pillar.
