ysal, I am in northern CA, the Oakland East Bay area. The Steller's Jays are mainly Sierra birds in the mountains. However, we seem to have several that stay down here year round. Again, your warbler shot is great. Our guy, the one in the album, is here year round also. He also likes the persimmons, although I mainly see him snatching insects out of the air.

Jade, I was going for that mottled background to get an oil painting effect. Thought it made it more interesting. Perhaps not. Also, a higher shutter speed would stop the wing movement, but then it looks frozen. I have tried that in the past and don't like the look. I prefer the sense of movement.

A kaleidoscope of color. Ramped up I think, but in this case very effective.

Nicely done b&w study. High contrast works well here.

Nicely seen and well composed by nature. Visually interesting, and that's what counts.

This has that 'family of man' quality that is super. Perfect in b&w as well.

A lovely pastoral scene with some wonderful light effects from the sun. You were there at just the right time.

I like the way the seed pods continue the lines of the swallow tail. Very effective and nicely seen.

Or, Earth Mother. A lovely portrait with a very determined looking expression. Excellent use of color and tonal quality.

I like the subtle color tone and reflection. From realistic to impressionistic in one shot.

My favorite pass-time also. Your yellow rumped warbler is better than the shots I have gotten of that bird. Anyhow, you have the best of the birds in this set. Nice job.

Thanks for the comments. I liked both of your entries. They were my 1st choices. As for me, I tried to do something in Main that was in a direction that you would appreciate--still life, composed, etc. In Open I just riffed on what I like to do, without any expectation of winning anything.
